Last night I was trying to watch LeBron James destroy the Indiana Pacers and I got blindsided by an ad for the US Postal Service. I didn’t really pay attention because the ad, just like most government programs, sucked. Not only is it bad enough that the US Postal Service loses billions of dollars every quarter (maybe it has something to do with advertising on prime time tv), but I have to sit through their terrible advertising campaign as well. I know about the USPS. I have to walk out to my mailbox every day to collect the 30-40 pieces of junk mail that I get that offer me a million dollars or whatever the scam of the week is.

If you are losing billions of dollars every year I guess what’s a couple more million on some tv ads? Hey, If I could spend other peoples money and get away with it I would too.

The National Debt is above 15 trillion dollars with no signs of shrinking any time soon. On top of the federal government spending too much, many state and local governments continue to spend money that they don’t have. Unfortunately for our government there is nobody to bail them out like a failing company (unless you count China buying our bonds).

The solution to the national debt is actually pretty simple, and it’s something that every individual has to abide by (except for morons who don’t know how to use credit cards), don’t spend money that you don’t have. Seems simple enough, but instead of cutting back on government programs we keep adding them. I wouldn’t be opposed to adding government programs if they were self sustainable, or weren’t run like complete shit. How bad are government programs? When was the last time you heard someone say “I can’t wait to go to the DMV” or “filing taxes was easy” or “I’m surprised the Post Office loses billions of dollars a quarter”. The first thing that comes to mind when most people think of the government is inefficiency and waste, and for good reason.

Anyone calling for more taxes is at the same time calling for more of our money being thrown down the drain. Am I right? Or am I right?
